Data Scraper — Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how the Data Scraper Chrome extension ("Extension", "we", "our") handles user data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
2. Data We Access
To provide its core functionality, the Extension accesses the following types of data:
2.1 Web Page Content
When you activate the Extension on a webpage, it reads the page's HTML content to detect and extract structured data such as tables, lists, emails, and images. This processing happens entirely within your browser.
2.2 Browsing Activity (Active Tab Only)
The Extension accesses only the currently active tab when you explicitly click the Extension icon or use its features. We do not monitor your browsing history or track websites you visit in the background.
2.3 Locally Stored Data
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API
(chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local):
- User preferences — theme, display settings
- Subscription status — your current plan (Free, Pro, or Team)
- Scrape history — recent scrape metadata (URL, row count, date) and a preview of the last 100 rows per scrape, stored locally
- Column templates — saved column configurations you create
- Schedule settings — any scheduled scraping configurations
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- Collect or transmit personal information to external servers
- Track your browsing activity across websites
- Sell, share, or transfer user data to third parties
- Use data for advertising, analytics, or profiling
- Use data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes
- Store scraped data on our servers — all data stays on your device
- Use remote code or load external scripts that process your data
4. Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab — Access the current page's content when you click the Extension icon
- storage — Save your preferences and subscription status locally
- scripting — Inject content scripts to parse and detect data on web pages
- tabs — Navigate between pages during multi-page crawling
- downloads — Save exported files (CSV, JSON, Excel) to your device
- alarms — Schedule periodic scraping tasks
- Host permissions (all URLs) — The Extension works on any website you choose to scrape
5. Payment Processing
For paid plans (Pro and Team), payments are processed entirely by PayPal. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details. PayPal's own privacy policy governs how they handle your payment data. Your subscription status (plan type and activation date) is stored locally on your device.
6. Data Security
Since all data processing occurs locally within your browser, your data is protected by your device's own security measures. Chrome's storage APIs use your browser profile's encryption. We do not operate servers that could be compromised.
7. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
